Know Where to Go

Whenever you are out at a public event space, being aware of your surroundings is extremely important, as dangerous emergency events can happen in an instant.

To be prepared for an emergency situation, carefully review the emergency and evacuation plans for your area. Take a few seconds to check your surroundings and identify emergency exits. Identify areas where you can shelter in place or move to for safety. Knowing where to go in advance can help save lives, and it is particularly important to review these topics ahead of time if you are going to an area you are not familiar with.

Also, have your mobile phone alerts turned on. Listen to instructions from local authorities.

If you have to evacuate, move to the identified emergency exit locations quickly and safely. If you are in a building, look for the emergency exit signage. Move away from danger as quickly as possible.

If you have to shelter in place, find the designated safety area for the building. Know how to get to an emergency assembly point if available. If the venue does not have a marked assembly area, ask staff members and other patrons for help.

It is also important to identify the locations of firefighting and first aid equipment. Knowing where these tools are can save people from injury or life-threatening situations.

First responders may take a few moments to arrive at the emergency event. Taking these steps can help save lives until first responders are able to arrive.
