Ready for Anything

No two emergencies are alike - from hurricanes and winter storms to chemical incidents and extreme heat. The Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management wants YOU to be prepared for Anything.

Preparedness begins at home. Begin with these simple steps.

Your Emergency Essentials Kit should include several days’ worth of water and food, flashlights with extra batteries, hygiene items, pet supplies, medications, and copies of important documents such as insurance policies, medical information and important phone numbers. See a full list of what you should have at ReadyHarris.o-r-g.

Your emergency plan should be catered to your families’ needs. Know where to meet in case of an emergency. Keep a list of emergency contacts, and make sure everybody knows where your Emergency Essentials Kit is stored.

If you live in an evacuation zone, know your evacuation route. Remember to take your pets and Emergency Essentials Kit with you if you are asked to evacuate. Know where you are going before you need to leave. Practice your plan with the whole family ahead of time.

Stay informed to help make the best decision for you and your family’s safety. Sign up for ReadyHarris alerts to stay informed before, during, and after an emergency by visiting ReadyHarris.o-r-g.

Lastly, consider registering for Community Emergency Response Team training at HarrisCountyCitizenCorps.com. You will learn how to prepare for a disaster, provide basic medical rescue aid, and more.

Together, we can create a more prepared and resilient Harris County.
